〈When You and I Were Young, Maggie〉

首先,我為大家介紹一首很美的愛爾蘭民歌〈When You and I Were Young, Maggie〉,作曲者詹姆斯.

I wandered today to the hill, Maggie,

To watch the scene below.

The creek and the creaking old mill, Maggie,

As we used to, long ago.

The green grove is gone from the hill, Maggie,

Where first the daisies sprung.

The creaking old mill is still, Maggie,

Since you and I were young.

They say I am feeble with age, Maggie.

My steps are less sprightly than then.

My face is a well written page, Maggie.

But time alone was the pen.

They say we are aged and grey, Maggie.

As spray by the white breakers flung.

But to me you’re as fair as you were, Maggie,

When you and I were young.

〈The Last Rose of Summer〉

〈The Last Rose of Summer〉(夏日最後一朵玫瑰)是一首流行很廣的愛爾蘭民謠,歌詞作者是十九世紀愛爾蘭詩人湯瑪斯.摩爾(Thomas Moore)。

The last rose of summer,

Left blooming alone ; 依然孤獨地綻放;

All her lovely companions

Are faded and gone ; 都已凋謝死亡;

No flower of her kindred,

No rosebud is nigh,

To reflect back her blushes,

Or give sigh for sigh.

I’ll not leave thee, thou lone one!

To pine on the stem ; 讓妳孤單憔悴地留在枝頭上;

Since the lovely are sleeping,

Go sleep thou with them.

Thus kindly I scatter

Thy leaves o’er the bed,

Where thy mates of the garden

Lie scentless and dead.

〈Believe Me, if All Those Endearing Young Charms〉

〈Believe Me, if All Those Endearing Young Charms〉這首歌,原曲是一首傳統愛爾蘭小調,歌詞也是詩人湯瑪斯.

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms

Which I gaze on so fondly today

Were to change by tomorrow and fleet in my arms

Like fairy gifts fading away. 在朝露裡自我懷中飛逝;

Thou wouldst still be adored as this moment thou art

Let thy loveliness fade as it will. 無顧妳花容不再如舊;

And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart

Would entwine itself verdantly still.

〈Molly Malone〉

In Dublin’s fair city,

Where the girls are so pretty,

I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,

As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,

Through streets broad and narrow,

Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!" 「

"Alive, alive, oh! Alive, alive, oh!"

She was a fishmonger,

But sure ’twas no wonder,

For so were her father and mother before, 她的爹娘也靠這樣過生活:

And they each wheeled their barrow,

Through streets broad and narrow,

Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!" 「

"Alive, alive, oh! Alive, alive, oh!"

She died of a fever,

And no one could save her, 華陀再世,也莫展一籌。

And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone.

But her ghost wheels her barrow,

Through streets broad and narrow,

Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!" 「

"Alive, alive, oh! Alive, alive, oh!"

〈Danny Boy〉

Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling

From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.

The summer’s gone, and all the roses falling.

’Tis you, ’tis you must go and I must bide.

But come you back when summer’s in the meadow

Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow,

For I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow.

Oh, Danny Boy, oh, Danny Boy, I love you so.

But if you come, and all the flowers are dying

And if I’m dead, as dead I might well be.

Ye’ll come and find the place where I am lying

And kneel and say an Ave there for me.

And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,

And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be,

And if you bend and tell me that you love me,

Then I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.
