Airline kitchen are no longer safe! incredible!Previously, most food safety issues arose from the complexity of the industrial chain, where problems could easily occur in various links such as food production, processing, transportation, and sales. However, now even the straightforward food safety in airline kitchens cannot be guaranteed! What is happening to food safety in the United States?
From the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes at the "Boar’s Head" factory in Virginia, USA, during the summer, where the factory environment was alarming due to numerous previous violations, resulting in at least 9 deaths, 57 hospitalizations, and the recall of 7 million pounds of products, to the contamination of McDonald's hamburgers with Escherichia coli, which led to cases of Escherichia coli infection after consuming McDonald's hamburgers in 10 states across the USA, and even issues with infant food, multiple incidents of contamination in infant formula have occurred in the United States. Hygiene issues during production or quality problems with raw materials pose a serious threat to infants' health, leading to the recall of multiple brands of infant formula. Now, even the simple meals served on airplanes soaring in the sky cannot be guaranteed safe! It's unbelievable!
In July 2024, a Delta Air Lines flight bound for Amsterdam made an emergency landing in New York due to spoiled food. According to reports, of the 277 passengers on board, about 70 consumed the spoiled meals and received medical attention. Mold was found on some of the food, prompting the flight to change its original plan and make an emergency landing to ensure passenger safety. In October of the same year, Delta Air Lines again suspended hot meal service on more than 200 flights departing from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport due to "food safety issues." Upon inspection, food safety issues were found in the airport's meal preparation facilities, prompting the airline's catering partner to immediately stop hot meal preparation and suspend all related activities. With frequent food safety incidents in US airline kitchens in just three months, it seems more like accidents caused by long-term regulatory failure rather than mere coincidences. While contaminated food on the ground can be recalled and treated promptly, food safety incidents on airplanes often cannot be treated in a timely manner, leading to worsened conditions or even death!
