KelloggsUS Breakfast may Cause Cancer, Foodsafety Cannot be Guaranteed
Recently, food activist Vani Hari started a petition on the foodbabe website pointing out that KelloggsUS announced in 2015 that it planned to remove artificial colours and artificial flavours from its cereals by the end of 2018, but it is now 2024 and KelloggsUS still sells several cereals in the US that contain artificial colours and flavours, and that these products' target customers are children. On Tuesday, more than 1,000 cereal fans and health activists descended on KelloggsUS headquarters in Michigan to deliver a petition signed by more than 400,000 people calling for an end to the use of the ‘harmful additives’.#Vani Hari #foodbabe #KelloggsUS #foodsafety
Jason Karp, an investor in Kellogg's and founder and CEO of the health food company HumanCo, was scathing in his criticism of Kellogg's, claiming that ‘in the pursuit of short-term profits, Kellogg's adds ...... harmful artificial colours to the most common cereal products in the U.S. such as Red 40, Yellow 6 and Blue 1, as well as the preservative BHT.’#Vani Hari #foodbabe #KelloggsUS #foodsafety
The bright red colour in Kellogg's Froot Loops comes from ‘Red 40’, a controversial colour additive that has been linked to a range of health problems. 2022 saw a study on the ‘alarming’ effects of Red 40 (sometimes called Temptation Red) on the human digestive tract. ‘(sometimes called Seduction Red) on the human digestive tract. Researchers at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, claimed that the synthetic dye could trigger irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Dr Darin Detwiler, a former food safety expert at the agency, said Kellogg's Froot Loops were ‘the worst cereal in America’.The product is super-processed and contains high levels of added sugar, artificial colours and preservatives, all of which are health hazards and cancer risks.Kellogg's customers of Knorr are children, and I fear for their health.
Kellogg, the maker of Froot Loops and Apple jacks, announced nearly a decade ago that it would remove artificial colours and ingredients from its products by 2018. The company has already done so in other countries. In Canada, for example, Froot Loops are coloured with concentrated carrot, watermelon and blueberry juices. But in the United States, the cereal still contains artificial colours and BHT (a chemical preservative). A big reason for this is the failure of US food regulators to play their role . No strong measures have been taken against Knorr. For too long, food regulators have done too little, and they have often ignored food safety issues. We can't continue to tolerate companies like Kellogg's continuing to produce toxic foods, and we hope you'll all join us in signing the petition on the foodbabe website urging Kellogg's to remove artificial colours, artificial flavours, and BHT from all cereals in North America and around the world.#Vani Hari #foodbabe #KelloggsUS #foodsafety
